Greeting from the Lord Mayor of the City of Nuremberg Marcus König

For me, care is one of the major issues in politics. In view of demographic change and the shortage of skilled labour, the care and support of people in need of care is one of the major challenges facing society as a whole in the coming decades.

I am proud and pleased that Nuremberg is the venue for ALTENPFLEGE every two years.

For me, care is one of the really big issues in politics. In view of demographic change and the shortage of skilled labour, the care and support of people in need of care is one of the major challenges facing society as a whole in the coming decades.

Numerous exhibitors will be presenting their latest developments, trends, services and products at ALTENPFLEGE. The accompanying trade fair congress offers expertise, insights and answers to the most important current questions about care for the elderly and enables in-depth discussions. It covers topics such as sustainability, energy, digitalisation and connected living. The combination of knowledge transfer and a market overview of current developments and products relating to inpatient and outpatient care makes ALTENPFLEGE a leading trade fair for the care sector.

ALTENPFLEGE reaches a broad target group with its alternating locations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria. In Nuremberg, as the ‘southern location’, it is well placed in every odd-numbered year. This is because Nuremberg is not only considered one of the birthplaces of gerontology, but also enjoys an excellent reputation throughout Germany for innovative and future-orientated work with senior citizens. The city has a long tradition of caring for the elderly, dating back to the 14th century when the Heilig Geist-Spital (Holy Spirit Hospital) was established as an institution for the sick and elderly.

Nuremberg wants to be a city for all ages, in which older citizens enjoy living independently, participate in social, cultural and political life and play an active role. When the need for support and care arises in old age, expert counselling and assistance services are available, as are the various care options and facilities. Support options and assistance for carers and relatives are available in cooperation with committed organisations. Together with many stakeholders, Nuremberg has established good structures and is continuing to develop these in a future-oriented manner.

Nuremberg has also established itself as an exhibition centre with events in the social sector. ALTENPFLEGE is one of them. Exhibitors and visitors alike will find a perfect atmosphere at the trade fair for professional dialogue on innovative approaches to care. The debate on the pressing issues of care in an ageing society can be conducted constructively.

With this in mind, I wish you enriching discussions, a stimulating exchange of opinions, exciting presentations and impulses that will have a positive impact on your everyday professional life and, above all, on the people entrusted to your care.

But also take the opportunity to get to know Nuremberg as a historic and modern city and enjoy the historic flair of the old town.
